Montana Fish, Wildlife And Parks Commission Stabs State's Sportsmen In The Back!

Dear LOBO WATCH Follower;

Following is an e-mail that went out the afternoon of February 16, 2012 - following the decision of the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission to no longer try to meet the wolf quota established for the 2011 Wolf Management Hunt. It went to Governor Brian Schweitzer, Senator Jon Tester, Senator Max Baucus, Congressman Denny Rehberg, to more than 70 State Senators and State Representatives, to the MT FWP Commission, to MT FWP management, and to more than 200 Montanans. It has also gone out to the media of this state, and to hundreds of those who work in the outdoor media.

Please send a link to this page to all on your e-mail list. It's time to take this battle to the next level.

The release that's referenced in the following e-mail can be read at the link at the bottom of this page. - Toby Bridges, LOBO WATCH

With the decision today by the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission to NOT extend the wolf season, that commission has dealt the sportsmen of this state one extremely low blow. Their actions clearly send the message that the commission, and the agency it steers, have absolutely no intention of controlling wolf numbers or the high degree of wolf depredation which has left the big game populations of western Montana in shambles.

And the manner in which the FWP Commission refused to take comments on their "unanimous" vote to end the season before the quota was even close to being met says reams about the directions they were handed down.

The attitude of many within MT FWP and how the FWP Commission has mishandled an ever growing wolf problem in this state has and continues to throw up red flags. The actions of both the FWP Commission and the agency are now telling the sportsmen and sportsmen-based organizations which have fully funded FWP that the agency no longer gives a damn about the real issues which are destroying the hunting in this state. The lack of appropriate action or even an appopriate plan tells all that MT FWP and the MT FWP Commission are working closely with radical environemental groups, the majority of which are extremely anti-hunting.

One such effort is the so-called Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative, the collaborative effort of more than 100 such groups, organizations and agencies. One of those radical agencies just happens to be MT FWP, which was listed as a collaborating partner of this plan to force residents off the land in order to establish a 2,000 mile long wilderness corridor running from the Greater Yellowstone Area all the way to the Yukon. Just today, MT FWP's name was removed from the list of collaborators. Coincidence? The sportsmen of Montana do not think so.

One question to all of you elected senators and representatives in the "To:" field is, "Who authorized FWP to collaborate, as a partner, in such an anti-hunting effort?"

There needs to be an investigation. Also, for the record, the University of Montana is also, still, listed as a collaborating partner. What gives with that? Do they hate Montana's rural residents...ranchers...and hunters?

One of the policies of the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative reads as follows...

"The Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative neither endorses nor condones the hunting of carnivore species such as grizzly bears, black bears, wolves and cougars."

While MT FWP is no longer listed as a partner of the Y2Y installment of the Wildlands Project, the unanimous vote today by the commission to not extend the wolf season sends another strong message...Montana's wildlife agency and commission are still reading from the script handed them by their radical environmental friends with such organizations as Defenders of Wildlife, the Sierra Club, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and the Wildlands Network.

We need legislation drafted and enacted which will prevent MT FWP and the FWP Commission from ever again establishing a partnership with such groups, which are working directly in the opposite direction of FWP's legislated mission.

Attached is a release that is going viral tomorrow on the internet...along with an update on how the FWP Commission stabbed the sportsmen of this state in the back this morning.

To Those In The "Cc:" and "Bcc:" fields...Please send an e-mail to those in the "To:" field to express how disappointed you are in the manner in which MT FWP and the MT FWP Commission continue to mismanage our wildlife in this state. For the sake of future hunting in this state...DO IT NOW...while you are still good and pissed! Please pass this around...it's time for a full fledged revolt against FWP in Montana.
