Special Event Announcement
September 12, 2011
Want To Make The Pro-Wolfers Howl? Then Join LOBO WATCH At A "Howl Across America" Rally In Bozeman On September 18!!
Rally To Start At 2 p.m. - In Bogert Park, Bozeman
What originally was being organized as part of the "Howl Across America" series of rallies by those who strongly support the reintroduction of the wolf across this country, just may turn into something totally different. Being a public rally, and being held in a public park in Bozeman, MT on Sunday, September 18, those who oppose the spread of wolves are now organizing to take part in the same rally.
"The sportsmen of this state have had their fill of the lies and deceit which plague the Northern Rockies Wolf Recovery Project. There has been far more that has been terribly wrong about dumping Canadian wolves into Montana, Idaho and Wyoming than there has been even a little bit right. If this event is to get media coverage, Montana's sportsmen will be there to counter all the lies which this true wildlife disaster has been based on and driven by," says Toby Bridges, founder of the wolf control advocacy group known as LOBO WATCH.
Jennifer Hane, a graduate student at Montana State University, in Bozeman, is organizing the pro-wolf side of this event. In an article published in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle on September 7, Hane said she hopes the rally will give wolf advocates an opportunity to have their voices heard. The event will begin with speeches at 2 p.m. Participants will then march to the Gallatin County Courthouse, picket and return to Bogert Park.
(Above Photo - Citizens of the Northern Rockies have had their fill of the wolf idiocy, and they are ready to declare war on these aggressive and destructive predators. And they are not about to let pro-wolf groups get in their way...nor a state government that no longer works for them.)
In the "Comment" section of another short announcement of the rally, which appeared in the same newspaper that same day, she wrote, "I don't know why anyone would bring an anti-wolf sign to a pro-wolf rally. If you want to hold your own rally right next to ours, go ahead; the park is a public space."
Hane, who apparently works for MSU, used her university e-mail address as a means of contacting her, and that has angered at least one MSU graduate, wildlife biologist and wildlife manager Allen Schallenberger.
In a September 9 letter to MSU president Waded Cruzado, he states, "I am writing about a problem at MSU of which you should be aware and take appropriate action. Jennifer Hane, graduate student, appears to be using her MSU email and perhaps her office to organize a pro-wolf rally on September 18, 2011 . Details are in the top front page article in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle Sept. 7, 2011 . See also the 39 comments online on this article and including ones by Jennifer Hane where she lists her email address and mentions that she is a graduate student. While she may be a good student, she has a lot to learn about wolves and their management in Montana and ethics. She is not aware of the corruption which brought us the wolves."

In that letter, Schallenberger goes on to share, "In Montana wolves are greatly harming some of our herds of elk, moose, white-tailed and mule deer and are also nearby bighorn sheep. I understand the huge problems that some cattle and sheep ranchers have with wolves. One of my own horses was chased through a barbed wire fence on my place near Sheridan and permanently damaged. Wolves have chased elk since 2001 off our local WMA`s purchased for winter range at a cost of millions of dollars. The elk move to private ranch lands where wolves are fewer. Outfitting friends have lost most of their business to wolves in the upper Yellowstone and upper Gallatin River areas. As a taxpayer and MSU graduate thinking about donating to MSU, I hate what Jennifer is ignorantly doing."
The deep concerns of lifelong wildlife conservationists like Allen Schallenberger are now growing more and more evident with the ever growing impact wolves are making on wildlife resources and ranching. Many elk herds in western Montana have been decimated by 80+ percent, elk calf survival is dangerously close to "0", and with that loss of annual calf recruitment, these herds are growing old. Before the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service released non-native Canadian wolves into this ecosystem, most herds averaged 4 to 5 years of age. Now, due to escalated wolf depredation and calf losses related to the stress wolves put on pregnant cows, the same herds are now averaging 8 to 9 years of age. And they are approaching an age where it will become biologically impossible for them to reproduce.
Hunters and other sportsmen point an accusing finger at the pro-wolf and animal right groups, such as the Defenders of Wildlife, and blame them largely for the problem. The pro-wolf side of the wolf debate has repeatedly provided false information to the general public, hiding the impact wolves were having on other wildlife resources and livestock production. That side of this issue has also severely downplayed the true number of wolves in Montana, and how quickly the wolf population was getting out of hand.
(Photo Above Left - Wolves pulled down and killed this pregnant cow elk, just to rip out the unborn fetus she carried - and ate extremely little of this elk. It is such surplus waste that can only be controlled by drastically reducing wolf numbers.)
What has really angered the sportsmen of this state is how our own Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has violated the trust these sportsmen placed in them. The agency seems to have sided with the pro-wolf movement, even though that side has not spent a penny on real wildlife management. FWP continues to ignore established wolf reproduction rates, and seems to purposely keep the estimated wolf count low - now claiming around 637 acknowledged wolves. Using the math of more experienced wolf biologists, the number is more like 1,700 to 1,800 wolves in Montana alone - and each is now eliminating 50 to 60 big game animals annually. That number better explains why game populations have literally crashed in many areas, and why sportsmen are now quickly losing hunting opportunities.
Knowing that FWP is controlled by the Executive branch of this state's government, most residents realize that Governor Brian Schweitzer is truly at the helm, and likely the one at fault for the lies and deception that cover up wolf numbers and wolf impact in Montana. One of the most critical is Montana Senator Debby Barrett, of Dillon.
Senator Barrett adds, "Since the governor and the FWP are in violation of state law and the MEPA (Montana Environmental Policy Act) document adopted by the federal government in 2003, they should be sued for non-compliance in each and every instance. Sportsmen, livestock producers, and county governments have all been ignored to date. I believe a law suit, or several law suits are our only option."
(Photo Above Right - Here's the math that MT Fish, Wildlife and Parks ignores...and why our elk herds are now in peril. Sportsmen, ranchers and elected county officials are now demanding change.)
One county that is on the verge of taking the wolf matter into its own hands is Ravalli County, Montana. In a stern letter sent to Governor Schweitzer, MT FWP Director Joe Maurier, and others in state and county government, Ravalli County Commissioner Suzy Foss included the following...Please Attend This Rally On September 18!!!
"I would appreciate it if the governor, or perhaps someone from a state or federal agency with even the slightest sense of honor and responsibility, if you would just come forward with some plan to turn things around. Some acknowledgement that the citizens of my county and of our state have been repeatedly raped and plundered by the Endangered Species Act. We need a plan put into action NOW to turn things around before it is simply too late, if we are not already beyond recovery.
At this point I see no direction from any source that will save my county or our state from this gross mismanagement. It is my commitment to rally every elected official at every level of local government in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Washington and Oregon to join together, county by county, to say enough. If our state and local elected officials do not have the power or the courage to join our fight then to heck with them but fight we must. I know we have many great leaders at our state and local levels and I implore you to join me in taking whatever legal steps are available and necessary to stop the madness."
These are some of the truths that pro-wolf followers attending the "Howl Across America" rally will have to mingle with at that Bozeman park on Sunday, September 18. Despite claims by a few pro-wolf supporters, those there in support of stringent control of wolf populations will be there to demonstrate in a peaceful manner.
"As the wolves continue to be wolves and rip apart the claims of those who still think of them as the loving, sociable and gentle creatures portrayed in old fictitious Walt Disney films, the pro-wolf crowd has simply run out of ammo, and facts, to fight their fight. It is that side which then becomes loud, obnoxious and threatening. Those who want wolves controlled do not have to revert to profanity and physical threats, they have truth on their side!" proclaims Bridges of LOBO WATCH.
